For over a century, the University of Oregon's School of Journalism and Communications has nurtured award-winning journalists, filmmakers, and communication strategists, shaping the media landscape with their achievements and innovations. With SOJC’s Hall of Achievement they strive to celebrate the alumni as well as inspire current students.
Challenge
SOJC faced the challenge of creating an engaging visual anchor that celebrated the outstanding success of its alumni while enticing current students. The goals were clear: design an awe-inspiring, interactive experience that exceeded client expectations, served as a recruitment tool, and seamlessly connected the past with the present.

Innovative Design for Timeless Impact
The Serenity team brought its deep background in digital development to bear, leveraging the Intuiface experience platform for maximum effect. The design process delved into essential questions about user perspectives, resulting in multiple iterations that balanced visual allure from a distance and user engagement up close.
Extensive mock-ups and testing, including a projector system simulating the full-scale viewing experience, ensured the design's effectiveness. The team curated hundreds of photos, videos, and quotes, crafting personalized stories for each inductee. A custom-built database adapted content dynamically, allowing users to filter stories by induction year, graduation, or academic track.

The 14-foot video wall emerged as a dynamic storyteller, featuring rotating images, videos, and accolades of inductees. Module dashboards facilitated multi-user interactions, employing familiar mobile gestures for seamless navigation through bios. Accessibility was paramount, with draggable dashboard modules ensuring eye-level engagement for users of varying heights. Serenity's customized back-end system empowered the client to effortlessly add new inductees and content. Technical expertise in touchscreen design and implementation ensured a harmonious integration of hardware and software, delivering a seamless, engaging experience for users.
Results
The Hall of Achievement has become a living testament to SOJC's legacy, celebrating luminaries and inspiring current students. The installation not only met but exceeded client expectations, serving as a recruitment tool and a captivating starting point for school tours. User feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the successful fusion of awe-inspiring visuals with an engaging, interactive experience.
